I am a Biochemistry graduate from UCLA, currently applying for medical school. I have been a chemistry and math tutor since my freshman year in college (4.5 years ago), and gained experience in tutoring physics and biology in the past 2 years. To me, learning is not a duty; it is having fun. I started to truly enjoy learning about the Sciences, specially chemistry, after I got involved in a research lab. My project was to synthesize a topologically interesting porphyrin. Applying what I had learned in class to a real research project helped me to realize the importance of what I had learned. Hence, I try to conduct my tutoring sessions in this fashion by keeping it interactive and showing my students how what we learn is being applied to our everyday life. My understanding is that knowing the practicality of the information proves its importance to the students and makes them crave more. Furthermore, by asking simple analytical questions about the discussed topic I try to keep our session like a game; where my students act like young researchers coming up with their own analytic conclusions.
Knowledge, enthusiasm, care, and patience are the important elements of tutoring, and I guarantee you a very helpful tutoring session by conveying these qualities.
