I am currently a student at Georgia Tech. I love to learn and I especially love the challenge of figuring out a good puzzle. For any math based subject, this leads me to figure out every aspect of a problem that I can and enables me to really understand the concepts. My experience as a tutor enables me to quickly ascertain how much the student understands about a given subject or problem, and from there I can help to fill in any gaps in knowledge so that they too can understand the concepts. My favorite ways to learn something are to see examples in real applications and to see analogies in the world around me. Of course, everyone is not like me, so I strive to figure out what works for other students, even if they don't know themselves. In the end, however, even a solid understanding of any subject isn't enough. What it really comes down to is practice, followed by more practice.
My philosophy is that knowledge is only as good as what you do with it. I believe we go to school not just to learn facts or formulas but to learn how to learn. Perhaps the material you learn will be useful in your career, but if not, you will be able to take the skills you learned along the way, the learning how to learn, and apply them to whatever you desire.
