MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a recent graduate of Georgetown University and just moved to Los Angeles from my hometown of Dallas, Texas. My passion for reading and literature drove me to major in English and get involved with the school paper. I was a staff writer on the Georgetown paper, the Voice, for three years, and a section editor this past fall. I began tutoring in high school and continued my tutoring career at Georgetown, volunteering for 826DC and Sursum Corda. While at 826DC and Sursum Corda, I tutored elementary and middle school children in subjects ranging from Spanish to Math (and of course English!). I believe the key to tutoring, and learning for that matter, is a hands-on approach that requires the student to be an active participant. In doing so, the student gains confidence in his or her own learning ability and learns to understand things through his or her own lens. I find the learning process fascinating, and I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to continue tutoring. In my spare time I enjoy exploring Los Angeles, hiking, playing volleyball, reading and writing.
