Hello,

I am currently a 7th grade Math teacher in Gwinnett County and I have always had a passion for working with children. My first job was at a summer camp, where I still work today during summer breaks. As one of the dance instructors for the camp, I have learned the definition of patience. There is nothing like seeing the excitement radiate off of a student’s face when they finally get the steps or witnessing a parent see their child dance for the first time and knowing that I was a part of helping that student succeed.
In my sophomore year of college I did an internship for Gear Up at Binghamton High School. Gear Up is a federally funded grant program that is an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs.
The demographics of the students at the high school are inner city, and mostly low income. My interactions with the students and my fearless attitude towards the real life issues I mentored the students through during my internship, led me to be selected as the Assistant to the Coordinators for the Program in my junior and senior years at Binghamton University. I worked closely with the students ensuring they were signed up for PSAT, SAT or ACT exams, mentored, tutored and planned college visits and other college preparatory events.
This past year I represented Teach for America as a teacher in the Metro-Atlanta area where I taught 7th grade math on the Special Education team to 120 students. I tirelessly spent the year dedicating my life to the art of teaching and learning innovative ways to get the material across to my students. When my students left my classroom in May, 90% of them passed the 7th grade benchmark test.
As a result of the bonds I have developed with at-risk students and my dedication to assisting them however I can, I am very passionate about taking on the responsibility of being a Varsity Tutor.
During tutoring sessions, I work hard to provide quality education to all my students. I will see an individual’s potential even when they are at their worst. I work tirelessly finding innovative ways to teach my Math and Spanish lessons. Outside of the tutoring sessions, I work with students and their families to create a culture of optimum learning.
