VARSITY TUTORS CERTIFIED TUTOR BASED IN LOS ANGELES
MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I'm originally from Winchester, MA and moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2009. I graduated from Harvard University in 2009 with a BA in English Literature. I've been officially tutoring for 4 years. However, my 6th grade math teacher once joked that he should give me a portion of his salary because of all the help I was giving my fellow classmates, so the desire to tutor has been a part of my life for even longer. I've worked with a wide range of students from middle school age all the way up to college level.
English is easily my favorite subject to tutor. Few things are quite as satisfying as introducing a student to the world of literature and enabling them to better express themselves through the written word. However, I was also a proud math team nerd in middle and high school, so I also highly enjoy the mental calisthenics of a good math tutoring session. My verbal and mathematical skills both come in handy for SAT prep as well. In SAT prep, I like to see myself as the wise guide who empowers his students to do battle with the evil testmakers by teaching them the tricks of the trade.
In my free time, I can be found doing improv comedy all over Los Angeles. I also enjoy writing comedy, and I was formerly the president of the Harvard Lampoon. An interesting tidbit from my past is that I was a competitive pairs figure skater for 16 years with my little sister. My jumping and spinning prowess don't really come in handy during tutoring sessions, but I keep holding out hope that maybe one day they will.
