MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
Hi! My name is Michaela, and I am currently a 5th and 6th grade Life Skills teacher. I love working with students one-on-one, and I am passionate about helping students develop strong self-confidence and pride in their learning.
Originally from a small town in Nebraska, I moved to Phoenix 3 years ago to teach after earning my Bachelor’s Degrees in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. While teaching middle school Writing and Social Studies, I earned my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Arizona State University. I also have gained teaching experience by instructing high school English summer school classes.
As a teacher, I realize how important it is to recognize a student’s preferred learning styles, interests, and motivation for success. It is also essential to me that I make learning fun without losing focus. Many of my students have commented that they enjoy my quirky, outgoing personality and the fact that I push them to set and achieve meaningful goals.
I have tutored students from 5th grade all the way up through college, and my specialties are English, Writing, Social Studies, Spanish, Music, Piano, and ACT or SAT test prep.
In my free time, I enjoy a wide variety of activities. As a classically trained pianist, I often play for weddings and parties, so I play the piano several hours a week. I also love to be outside hiking, running, biking, or walking my Pomeranian, Lucy. My favorite way to spend time is traveling with my husband. We visited Rome last fall, and I cannot wait to take him to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I studied Spanish during college!
