MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am originally from Charlottesville, VA, although I have called the Mississippi River home for three years of my life. I graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in History. I then taught middle school math in post-Katrina New Orleans, before entering medical school at the University of Virginia. While I found medicine interesting, I found that it wasn’t what I wanted to spend my life pursuing. I completed two years, then withdrew last July in order to enter graduate classes at Covenant Theological Seminary, a Christian seminary in Saint Louis. I should note that while I have been studying history, the sciences, and theology since high school, my favorite subjects in high school were math and English! I love learning, and I think a broad education is extremely important.
I’ve really loved St. Louis! My favorite things about it are the Arch, Forest Park, Ted Drewe’s, picnics, Shakespeare in the Park, and the laid-back and friendly people. I love playing sports like soccer and Frisbee, outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and water skiing, and participating in the arts like music and theater. I especially enjoy being with family and friends. I have five nieces and nephews, ranging from ages nine to fourteen, who are among my favorite people in the world.
I have a number of helpful study strategies that I’m looking forward to share with students I tutor. Studying and learning often feels tedious, but when it is done with efficiency and in the direction of a goal, it brings a great sense of satisfaction: both in a sense of accomplishment, as well as in the knowledge and skills acquired.
