MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am an Engineering student in my third year of school who lives in the Plano area and has been tutoring in math and science since 2009. As an Engineering student, my coursework requires me to maintain and constantly improve my understanding and ability to perform in the subjects of Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics.
While serving in the United States Marine Corps, I started a personal skills program that encouraged junior Marines to practice their fundamental academic skills (mathematics, reading comprehension, and general science), learn more about the bigger world around them by staying on top of current events, and to investigate their personal viewpoints on such intangibles as honor, honesty, leadership, and discipline. I’m a believer in the benefits of leadership/ teamwork, perseverance, and developing pride in accomplishments. I don’t believe that there is any obstacle in a person’s education that they can’t overcome with the proper mindset (and a little help).
As a tutor, I’ve had the pleasure of helping students of all ages understand their subjects better, while reducing the expense of time spent on trying to understand something for the first time. As the son of a professional science and math teacher, I had the benefit of hearing mathematical scientific explanations years before experiencing them in the classroom. I also had constant access to someone who could take the time to explain their meanings to me, and I know what a tremendous benefit that sort of access gives. I take great pleasure in helping others to learn and be successful.
On a personal note, I enjoy reading, studying science and math, SCUBA diving, practicing martial arts, and watching the occasional movie. I have traveled all over the world through my previous work for the government, and I have volunteered as an assistant coach, fill-in instructor in Dallas-area martial arts programs, and to work with underprivileged children and for animal causes.
