VARSITY TUTORS CERTIFIED TUTOR BASED IN DALLAS FORT WORTH
MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
My name is Dr. Anas Saleh. I am a first year resident physician at Methodist Health System in Dallas. I also have a master’s degree in organic chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelors of science in biology from Indiana University. I first started tutoring when I was in college. After excelling in my math and science courses, I started helping my friends who were struggling in these subjects. In the beginning, it was hard for me to show or explain a concept, but after few times, I overcame the challenge. I started to use diagrams, draw pictures, and break down the materials into its basic components which gave me a very unique teaching style. My professors at the time started to ask me to become an official tutor and work for the university tutoring center. And I did. I started to tutor 3-4 people, but by the end, my sessions were reaching their limits of 10 students almost every session. After transitioning to graduate school, teaching came naturally to me. This made it very easy for me since I had to teach a chemistry class at a university level every semester. I taught general chemistry laboratory 1 and 2, Organic chemistry laboratory 1 and 2, and analytical chemistry lab. I was very proud of myself because my office hours were always packed with students. Even though I was not compensated for it, I always hosted extra tutoring sessions for my students as well as students from other lab units before their general chemistry and organic chemistry midterm and final exams. I was very happy because the lecture hall used to be packed with students and sometimes there was not enough space for everyone to set and some would set on the stairs or stand in the back. I used to be very pleased when I hear that the students who attended my review session did well on their test.

Once I left graduate school and obtained my masters, I continued my journey into medical school. I did not stop tutoring. It started with biochemistry since it was already one of my strengths. However, I found myself loving every topic in medical school and good grades were just a welcomed side effect. I received a 4.0 GPA on my first semester and was placed on the dean’s list. I then started to host small tutoring groups that grew into larger and larger groups in no time. I tutored biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, histology, neurology, microbiology, pharmacology, and immunology. I was one of the most famous people on campus, and once again, the dean asked me to started working at the university tutoring center. Even though, I was not compensated for any tutoring I did, I was extremely happy doing it. I truly enjoy helping people understand a hard concept or learn a new method to solve a problem. I am more than convinced that you will find me very helpful making you understand the material you need help with. I am not saying that because I am an MD or because I have a masters degree, or even because I used to teach at a university level, but because I truly love teaching and really enjoy it. One of these days, after I finish residency, I will be working in an academic setting and teach in a medical school just because I love teaching. To quote Confucius “Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life.” I hope this helped to paint a picture of who I am. Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my profile and hope that I can be of some help to you or your loved ones.
