My name is Madeline (Maddie), and I am currently a sophomore at Northwestern University majoring in theatre and English (creative writing), with a minor in psychology. Originally from New York, I went to a Montessori School through the 6th grade, when I transferred to the Brearley School, an all-girls school in Manhattan. I love to act, sing, make mixed CDs for friends, play with animals, read, write, and watch good movies.

I have tutored independently for the past couple years; my teaching experiences include tutoring an eight-grade boy with Asperger's in reading and math, and a 9th grade girl in essay writing and editing. Most recently, I tutored two brothers, in the 4th and 5th grade respectively, in math. I also volunteer weekly as a mentor to a 4th grade girl at the Evanston YMCA, and have extensive babysitting experience.

My experiences tutoring students of various ages, needs, and levels of ability have impressed upon me the importance of tailoring teaching methods to the particular student. I firmly believe in working with the student to figure out the best strategies for him or her. I try to make learning fun, and believe that a successful tutoring session not only produces results, but also engages the student and leaves them with a feeling of ownership of the material.
