MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
Salvete, omnes!
I have wanted to be a Latin teacher since I was 15 years old. I started Latin in 7th grade, and from my very first day, I was entranced with the structure and grammar of the Latin language, and the drama and realism of Roman history and culture. Latin is very much a living language in every sense of the word – we still have so much to learn!
I have been teaching 5th – 12th grade Latin for the past 8 years, in traditional schools, accelerated gifted courses, and online courses. I love Latin!
In addition to teaching Latin, I am a debate coach and judge – which means a LOT of writing, and organizing it in a way that is easy to understand and persuasive. In debate, not only do I get to think about and pick apart arguments from history to current events, but also use my knowledge of grammar, and Latin derivatives to build irresistible cases!
I have been tutoring since I was in college, and have worked with students as young as 5, and as old as adults. One of the best feelings in the world is when I see Latin, or other subjects, “click” for a student. My approach varies greatly student to student – I get to know my students and how they learn, and develop plans based on students strengths, level of engagement, and learning style.
