VARSITY TUTORS CERTIFIED TUTOR BASED IN PHOENIX
MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I attended University of Chicago for my undergraduate degree in economics and sociology. My home town was Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (Go Pens!). At the U of C, I studied many quantitative subjects (math and statistics) as well as social sciences and humanities. During my college years, my part-time job was assistant teaching and tutoring in the Chicago Public school system. Here, I helped from elementary to middle school aged children improve their grades and gain their confidence in back in a variety of subjects.
I am a currently PhD student at Arizona University working toward my degree in Biology and Neuroscience. I am fascinated by the mysteries of the human mind. One intriguing thing I have learned while studying the brain is that the line between genius and insanity is a very fine one! At ASU, I have taught undergraduate biology laboratory classes for the past 7 semesters: everything from Freshman Bio, Human Anatomy, Animal Physiology. I have also mentored undergraduate students to do their own neuroscience research projects in our lab.
Personally, I’m not just a science nerd! I really enjoy art: drawing, sketching, painting in my spare time. I love to spend lazy weekends reading novels and watching movies (especially any movie that has to do with “what will our world be like in the future” (ex: Matrix, District 9, Back to the future, Minority report, Alien, Artificial Intelligence, Blade Runner etc). During my free time, I also just enjoy hanging out with family and friends over some good eats . I like to (try to) cook random ethnic food from you name it culture.
As you see from my background, I tutor who can help you in both math/science as well as English/Social Sciences. Tutoring sessions will be relaxed and laid back, but soon subjects that seem boring or difficult will come to life. After we start studying together, tackling that math problem , science project, English essay will no longer be that thing you procrastinate, but a challenge you look forward to conquering.
