MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a graduate student currently living in Brooklyn. I received a B.A. in English from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.A. in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from NYU, and I plan on starting a Ph.D. program in Spanish and Portuguese in the fall. I have tutored in Connecticut and New York, and taught English in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While my favorite subject to teach is writing, I have also successfully tutored students from grades 2-12 in math, Spanish, history, reading, science, study/organizational skills and test prep. I have prepared students of many different levels for the SATs, ACTs, SSAT and ISEE. Writing can be very intimidating for many students, so I believe in simplifying the process and turing it into a succession of smaller, easier steps that can serve as a model for future projects. I also believe in finding the student's unique learning style and tailoring the sessions in a way that maximizes our time. It is important to not only help students pass their tests or write their reports, but to also arm them with the necessary skills and habits that will allow them to continue to succeed in the future. Personally, I am bookworm who also loves movies, travel, food and sports.
