MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I've lived in Houston my entire life. I've always loved Math, because it has always made sense to me. I've also got teaching in my blood. My mom was a teacher. My grandma was a teacher. The teaching gene got passed on to me, and I love to help others, so I became a tutor. I've have been tutoring for 4 years. I always try to explain how math works and why it works fundamentally. I focus on general concepts and how they apply to more than just one section in a book, but to future lessons, as well as past lessons. I also try to give real world examples to give students something to relate math to.
When I tutor students I try to keep things from getting too serious. I will sometimes tell an appropriate joke to keep the student comfortable. If I sense a student doesn't understand my first explanation, I will back up and explain it differently until they are comfortable with the concept. My focus is helping the student improve. So I do my best to help them progress in Math.
