VARSITY TUTORS CERTIFIED TUTOR BASED IN CHICAGO
MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
It's my pleasure to introduce myself as a Varsity Tutor, specializing in the sciences and mathematics. It's been a long journey that brought me to this point; one that's given me invaluable experiences that I bring to my teaching and tutoring style.
I grew up on the coast of New Jersey, and attended a public high school that is now considered failing. While there, I worked as hard as I could to exceed standards and developed an intrinsic motivation to learn anything and everything that I could. By the time I completed that experience, I was prepared and yearning to move on to greater things.
I found such things at the University of Chicago, where I chose to study physics. That was not without it's challenges initially, however. Due to my weak academic background from high school, I spent my first year and summer at school catching up to the typical physics program, and had to spend extra time learning the advanced mathematical techniques needed to succeed in the program. Towards the end of my four years, I had a chance to explore other areas I was interested in, such as theater design, music theory, and fencing.
When I finished my BA program, I tried my hand at research. I spent a year working on a project with Fermilab working on locating the Higgs boson. While there, I learned more about the nature of science and scientific research than I had at four years of university. I had the pleasure and honor of working with some of the most brilliant minds in the field. At the close of my contract, i left the lab and chose to pursue education, enrolling in a certification program at IIT and completing my student teaching at Homewood-Flossmoor high school.
While looking for education work, I've been drumming with a rock band, training sport fencing, and now tutoring students. I look forward to the opportunity to work one on one with students, enriching both their lives and my own while gathering additional educational experience.
