VARSITY TUTORS CERTIFIED TUTOR BASED IN DALLAS FORT WORTH
MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
Becoming a Master Tutor at UT-Arlington was my first credential toward becoming a certified Spanish teacher. Completing nearly 800 hours of tutoring I developed a reputation for bringing out the best possible in the students. Later, I earned a secondary teaching certificate and a BA in Spanish.
With five years in the classroom, three with middle schoolers and two with high schoolers, I have encountered a full range of abilities and difficulties with learning a new language. At UTA I specialized in helping students with TBIs and those who were struggling most deeply. Among my UTA tutees, several stayed with me for two semesters and a few for three. It was very rewarding to have their trust in guiding them through the material and watching them light up as they saw their own efforts bring better scores. The middle schoolers and high schoolers often needed guidance on using time and a few key methods to reduce the time needed for tomorrow's quiz.
Some of my methods are to compare and contrast, to draw pictures, diagrams or charts, color coding has even been used. One of my favorite memory tools is to make word pictures--that is to use letters in the word to help create a memorable image. About 1/4 of Spanish lends itself to this method.
My goal is to build confidence in my students. With a good night's rest they can walk into class the next day knowing the 3-minute drill is all they need for another good score!
I look forward to sharing some of these with you!
