VARSITY TUTORS CERTIFIED TUTOR BASED IN NEW YORK CITY
MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a philosophy student currently studying Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at the King's College. I was born in eastern Pennsylvania, grew up near Columbus, Ohio, and lived in Albania for four years during high school. I visited Kenya and Bulgaria this past winter -- my 26th and 27th countries!
I joined Varsity Tutors mainly to help students with entrance exams (SAT, SSAT, ISEE, PSAT). I personally improved my score by 250 points in just two sections with a little personal study. I believe strongly that anyone who learns the structure, nuances, focuses, and limits of the SAT can not only improve their score but earn perfect scores like I did on the creative reading and writing multiple-choice sections. Students spend hours on regular coursework that prepares them for the SAT but very little time studying the actual test, which is surprisingly predictable and limited in scope. Many of these principles also apply to the ISEE, PSAT, and Iowa Test of Basic Skills.
I have taught violin to five students over a span of three years and studied violin at the Albania Academy of Arts.
In Albania I taught English and served as a lab assistant teaching chemistry and physical science. I also coached youth soccer for three seasons and helped briefly with World Vision and the Red Cross. I am the oldest of four children in my family and our time in Albania taught me the incredible importance of patience. I think that will serve me well as a tutor.
I love climbing mountains, riding four-wheelers, and traveling. I play 6 instruments and just returned from singing bass and playing violin for NYC's Symphony Chorus in Chicago. I am a diehard fan of Ohio sports, especially the Reds and the Buckeyes. I have played soccer and baseball at King's, and last year I completed the Cyprus marathon in 4:12:10!
