MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a structural engineering graduate student at UT Arlington and I live in the Fort Worth area. In the course of my collegiate career I have managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA in all of my English, History, Calculus and Engineering classes. To me there is nothing more gratifying than helping a student not only to succeed academically but also to develop a confidence in their ability to learn that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.
I truly believe that all students are capable of learning absolutely anything that they set their mind to and that a student's deficiency in a particular subject is not due to a student's lack of ability, but rather, the material being presented to that student in a way that is not best suited to his or her learning style. I take pride in my ability to find that style that works for a student and to implement it with positive results.
I have over a year of experience in tutoring and substitute teaching and I am comfortable working with students in many different subjects. My strong math and engineering background makes me particularly well suited to tutoring students in mid to higher level math courses. I also have both training and experience working with elementary math students in a way that encourages visualization and makes understanding basic math concepts much easier.
In addition to my math qualifications I have been thoroughly trained in proven methods for increasing students reading abilities. I have spent the last several months working extensively with students in this program and have experienced some truly astonishing success stories. One particular example of a student's amazing progress was a 7 year old student who went from being a non-reader to reading at grade level in less than 3 months.
Now that you know a bit about my professional interests I'd like to tell you a bit about me when I'm not studying or tutoring. I love playing sports of almost any kind. I particularly enjoy football and volleyball. I'm a big TCU and Dallas Cowboys fan and I like to attend games whenever possible. I also enjoy reading any book I can get my hands on and drawing and sketching buildings and other architectural structures.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me and my approach to tutoring. No matter whom you decide is the best fit for you or your student I wish you the very best.
