VARSITY TUTORS CERTIFIED TUTOR BASED
IN DALLAS FORT WORTH
MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I began tutoring in college after responding to an ad put out by the Student Learning Assistance Center at my school. From my very first position as a general history tutor to my work as a writing center tutor for undergraduate and graduate students to my previous position as an English Teaching Assistant in Lille, France, I’ve discovered that my love for tutoring only grows.
I’m excited to join the team at Varsity Tutors since it allows me to pursue a job that I’m passionate about while attending law school at Southern Methodist University. I love the challenge of creating different ways to structure tutoring sessions so that students can fully master the material. The moments when a student finally understands, when everything clicks for them so that they could do it for themselves, is extremely rewarding. It is my belief that a tutor’s goal is not only to help students learn the material they are having trouble with but to help them learn the best ways for them to learn: this skill can help them throughout life.
I enjoy working with students of all ages and have had experience tutoring 5th grade students to graduate school students. I specialize in liberal arts, particularly grammar and writing, literature, government, history and French. I also tutor elementary math and sciences. I try to keep tutoring fun and informal since I know that not everyone loves the same subjects – personally, I’m often told I’m crazy for loving grammar!
I was born and raised in the Dallas area though I’ve lived in various countries in Europe, particularly France, for several years. Most recently, I moved back to Dallas from Austin, Texas. When I’m not studying, attending class, or tutoring, I’m often reading or watching French TV to keep up my French speaking skills. If you and your student think I’m a good fit, let me know and we’ll see if we can’t turn dislike of a subject into love – or at the very least understanding!
