MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am currently a student at Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Writing and Women's Studies. I have often been in a position of mentorship and I very much enjoy the role.
I have experience working with individuals my own age as a student advisor, helping new college students adjust to college academics and develop their interests in extracurricular activities. I also worked weekly with a university student from the Republic of Georgia, tutoring her via Skype in American-style writing and argumentation.
I also have experience tutoring younger kids in after-school programs with local schools through Washington University tutoring clubs.
The most essential aspect to successful tutoring, I believe, is communication. The tutor and student should have a dialogue about what concepts are understood, and what needs further practice, so that time spent together is as productive as possible.
