MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I have a Ph.D in Evolutionary Genetics, Population and Conservation Biology and a double major in Biology and Chemistry with emphasis on teaching. I earned my degrees in Budapest, Hungary and I moved to the US fifteen years ago. I worked as a post doctoral associate at the university of California at Davis and at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
During my training I taught biology and chemistry in middle schools and high schools, and after earning my Ph.D. degree I gave lectures at undergraduate and graduate level courses.
Having been trained as a teacher I have a passion for sharing my knowledge with students. Some may find the complexity of biology and chemistry intimidating, but I think everyone has an innate curiosity and drive for understanding our natural world. I consider it my mission to keep the students' motivation alive. Science is fun and everybody has an invitation to play! In the classroom and in tutoring sessions I always encourage students to ask questions. There is no such a thing as a bad question, as the old saying goes - and this is definitely true when one is learning about nature.
Besides my teacher's degree in biology and chemistry, my own research in theoretical ecology requires advanced knowledge of mathematics. I have a solid background in math and I can help with introductory physics as well.
In my free time I enjoy the outdoors, I love hiking and trail running. Besides teaching and science, my other passions are listening to classical music, and playing the piano. I also work as a volunteer naturalist to teach children about nature in the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area.
