My name is Rebekah, and I am a former teacher who specializes in working with students in need of Language Arts tutoring, particularly for standardized tests. My background as an English teacher as well as my MA in Linguistics give me a strong foundation for relating to students with any type of language-based need. This includes areas such as accent reduction, essay and creative writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary learning, and test preparation. In addition, my current work towards my M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction gives me insight into the best methods to use to achieve student success.

My clients have ranged from elementary students who need help with reading comprehension to college students preparing for the GRE. I have taught middle school, high school, and first year college students. I have taught a diversity of courses, including English 9 and 10, American and British Literature, Journalism, First Year College English for ESL students, Geography, Drama, Old and New Testament Survey, and Apologetics. From the college level to middle school, my students have always given me strong evaluations for relating well to them and communicating clearly and effectively.

I discovered my love and my gift for teaching while working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at UTA, which led me to teach at an international school in Davao City, Philippines. I lived in Asia for 2 years, and I continue to love traveling as well as working with students from various cultural backgrounds. I have also taught in a private school here in Houston. I love tutoring because it allows me to work one on one, finding a way for each student to succeed. I believe that each individual has a unique way of learning and retaining information, and it is my privilege to enable him or her to do so. Learning should be fun and engaging for all students, and I do my best to help make that possible.

In my free time, I enjoy challenging my husband to a good board game, but I also love developing my creative side through scrapbooking or writing. I appreciate a great movie and own a substantial collection of DVDs from a variety of genres, though my favorites are science fiction, police procedurals and romantic comedies.
