VARSITY TUTORS CERTIFIED TUTOR BASED IN ST. LOUIS
MY PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a senior at Washington University studying Chemical Engineering. As such, I am quite comfortable tutoring in the areas of math and science. I was part of the National Honor Society in high school and volunteered as a tutor. I was also involved in Boy Scouts. I attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and along the way I taught hordes of antsy boys the basics of camping. I am also the oldest of four children in my family, so I have been helping out with homework for as long as I can remember. As a tutor for Varsity, I have helped my clients achieve remarkable results, the most notable being one high school student who raised his ACT score from a 26 to a 31, high enough to qualify for Missouri's Bright Flight scholarship program. In my experience, both as a tutor and a student, I've found that most problems, if not all, stem from a lack of understanding of fundamental concepts of the material. I work with a student making sure not just that they can memorize a formula, but that they understand what that formula represents and why that matters. For those students hoping to improve their standardized test scores, I work on improving time management and helping them find a test taking strategy that works well for them. In my free time, I like to play Ultimate Frisbee with my friends, play trombone in the Washington University Pops Orchestra, and watch Clint Eastwood movies or It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia.
