My tutoring career began when I was asked to become an Engineering tutor as a sophomore at Washington University in St. Louis in 2008. In this role I was not only a tutor for peer engineering students but also served as an academic mentor and adviser.

Soon after, in the fall of 2009, I began working with Varsity Tutors in St. Louis. Through both these tutoring roles, I had the opportunity to help students ranging from middle school aged kids to graduate students in a wide array of subjects.

Though the types of students I have tutored are varied, the common theme in my tutoring experience has been empowering the student to truly learn concepts through problem solving. Based on my personal experience as both a tutor and a student, I have seen that thinking, working, and solving problems helps solidify a concept much more than simply hearing someone lecture about it. This approach has proved successful in getting students' scores up in the classroom and on standardized tests.

After I graduated Washington University in 2010, I came to Dallas to attend the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. I am delighted that Varsity Tutors has started an office in DFW and am elated to continue my rewarding tutoring career in the community here.

I have a strong interest in education at all levels and am involved in several educational endeavors in addition to Varsity Tutors. This includes being on the Student Advisory Board of a start-up online educational platform for medical students, residents, and health professions students and tutoring younger medical students at UT Southwestern. I plan to make teaching a large part of my medical career by going into academic medicine in the future.
