Tutoring review by Lindsey in Montgomery, IL
The student did not have any Algebra homework or tests/quizzes to study for. She had multiple assignments, projects, and tests in other classes to prepare so I helped her with those, including Biology and World History. We also talked a little about college, including the placement test versus GPA and the sliding scale some universities have for admissions, AP classes, applications, majors, and the importance of work ethic. She also shared her grades for the third quarter and so far in the fourth quarter with me. She is continuing to make A's and B's and to strive for A's, so she is doing very well.

Tutoring review by Carol in Montgomery, IL
I met with the student for additional time to provide additional support and practice for subtracting with up to 6 digits with regrouping. He needed additional practice regrouping especially with zeros. Using a whiteboard I started with 3 digit subtraction with regrouping, then did 4 digit, moved up to 5 digits and then worked on 6 digits. He seemed to understand better. He is more successful when he can write the numbers larger so that he can easily see the problem and makes fewer mistakes. I recommend that his teacher modify his math problems to be larger for him to be more successful. Then we read a small passage and discussed author's purpose.

Tutoring review by Pervez in Montgomery, IL
I covered the topic of Cells of Prokaryotes, and Eukaryotes. I then taught about the difference between these two types of cells. In Eukaryotes, I taught about different organelles of plant and animal cells and their functions. We covered the concept of diffusion, osmosis, passive transport, facilitated diffusion, and coupled transport by a membrane protein. I used a PowerPoint slideshow to start off the tutoring session. The student was attentive and was keenly participating in the session by asking questions.

Tutoring review by William in Montgomery, IL
We worked almost exclusively on the quantitative section. The student had previously found finishing the section in the time allotted to be a problem. He has a tendency to be overly systematic for what is essentially a puzzle test, so ways to find answers with minimal set-up were emphasized. We will return to quantitative next meeting, with practice drills for percentage problems, averaging, and geometry.

Tutoring review by Lindsey in Montgomery, IL
The student and I worked through many topics in precalculus and physics. We discussed working with various trigonometric formulas--sum, difference, half-angle, and double-angle-- to calculate exact solutions using the unit circle for diverse angles. We also discussed forces in circular motion, finishing up her physics homework.
