Tutoring review by Cody in Mississippi
The student and I reviewed chemistry involving protecting groups, imine formation, and some reduction and oxidation. The session went very smoothly, and the student exhibited a strong understanding of the concept material. These problems were worked out over the session, and we are planning on an additional session tomorrow evening to address any additional questions.

Today, we went over the section on money. After this review, we had a discussion about the difference between borrowing and lending money. It was difficult for the students to differentiate, so we did a class demonstration, and it seemed to help the students understand better. After this, I had the students do an activity in their workbook, which took up the remainder of the class. I assigned homework. Today was a good session, and we will continue this section next class.

We worked on reading and pronunciation. The student read an article about Venezuela from an online newspaper, and we identified words and sounds he had trouble pronouncing. This was designed to work toward his ultimate goal of making presentations clearly and effectively.

The student and I worked on some problems that she was running into on the homework. We focused on finding differing loan amounts and mortgage rates. We also worked on finding principle amounts to put into an account. Overall, she did awesome at her lesson and is doing great in the class!

Tutoring review by Mathias in Mississippi
We covered general algebra concepts, factoring, finding zeros, and foiling and multiplying factors with tables. The student recently had an exam and felt she didn't do well and was a bit disheartened. She actually was fairly competent at the material but had minor issues with multiplication/addition and combining like terms. She seemed to grasp the concepts well and learn new skills quickly. We didn't get to refine her skills much in the time we had (we mostly looked at old problems), but I feel we did find the source of her troubles and give her an area to focus on. We hopefully rebuilt some confidence after seeing that she did most of the test problems correctly, but her stumbling was heavily punished by the grading scale. I feel like if she focuses on this one particular problem (order of operations/combining terms/multiplication) for a session or two, she'll be in perfect shape to get top marks in the rest of her class.

Tutoring review by Cory in Mississippi
Our first session went very well. We did an overall refresher on various Calc I and II concepts, reviewing what the student remembered from his previous time taking the course. He seems to have a very good handle on a lot of the types of problems we went over, so I'm feeling pretty confident that he's going to get the grade he's looking for this semester. We identified a few areas that are a little more difficult such as trig identities and sequences and series, so we'll definitely cover those in-depth as he gets to those lessons in class.
