Tutoring review by Bejoy in Millville, NJ
The student and I worked for most of the first hour with her homework and I thought she did a great job overall, with understanding what the question was asking and then working out the problem. We covered the concept of counting principle and how to use that to find the total number of outcomes in any given situation. The student was very receptive to the material we reviewed and it was connected to real life examples. After we finished with her homework, we spent the next hour reviewing and practicing problems I obtained online and we worked on about 15 different problems similar to the ones she did in her homework. Her altitude was positive throughout the session and she was calm and patient.

The student and I went over the review one more time to prepare for his test on Thursday. We reviewed composite functions, transformation of graphs, algebra of functions, fractions, one-to-one inverse, inverse functions. He practiced problems and did well. What he did not remember, we went over. He struggled a bit with fractions and finding common denominator. We reviewed fractions and went over everything on the review.

Tutoring review by Lisa in Millville, NJ
We started by reviewing the homework I gave the student on parallel lines. She did well on this. We also reviewed her midpoint formula homework, which she did very well on! After that, we began working through a PSAT practice packet that she received in class. A lot of this is review, but some of it is new material.

Tutoring review by Julia in Millville, NJ
The student completed another translation of a short story to review today. Her sentence structure and grammar were excellent and had improved exponentially from her last translation (which, for the record, was also very good to begin with!). She highlighted the vocabulary she had questions about, and we walked through each one, which had been worded in two different ways to say the same thing. For example, one sentence was written as follows: The dog rushed away/ran away quickly so that he would not be caught. We went over "rushed," meaning to act quickly, and "ran away," which is to move away from a location, and why both verbs were correct. After the translation, we moved on to reading a small article from Reader's Digest, and the student underlined any vocabulary she didn't recognize. As in previous sessions, we went over the vocabulary and she had no issues learning the new words. Her confidence in written, read, and spoken language has improved noticeably!

Tutoring review by Aunaly in Millville, NJ
Today we started by working through several math problems the student was having difficulty with. Most of the problems involved simplifying expression involving exponents. We reviewed when to add, subtract, or multiply exponents and how to simplify fractions involving exponents. We then worked on how to solve equations with fractions by multiplying both sides of the equation by the common denominator so as to make the equation only whole numbers and no fractions. We then moved on to how to read topographic maps. We reviewed how to find the contour interval. We also reviewed finding mean, median, mode, and range of a data set. We also reviewed the three branches of government, the checks and balances of each, the constitution, and the first 10 amendments.

Tutoring review by Joy in Millville, NJ
Today, the student and I went over math verbiage again as well as some algebra. We went over writing an equation from information provided, how to find the lowest common denominator for adding and subtracting fractions, order of operations, and adding and subtracting positive and negative integers. She also took another practice test and scored 23/30, finishing with time to spare. This is an improvement over her last attempt. We went over the problems she missed, which included algebra, linear equations, writing linear equations, graphing, and fractions. She guessed at most of the questions that she answered incorrectly because the problem appeared too complicated at first glance, and she thought she couldn't do them and still finish within the time frame. She needs to take a little more care in reading each problem, but I am pleased with her improvement. We will meet again on Wednesday.
