Tutoring review by Amrutha in Grayslake, IL
The first student chose to work on an online placement test during the session. She is usually a bit stubborn about doing basic processes without a calculator so the exam challenged her in this regard. She was able to successfully divide decimals and fractions without a calc. She struggles with remembering how to divide fractions, so we did practice on that, and she was left to finish her test on her own. The second student chose to do her online test on her own and asked to review concepts for an upcoming exam. We reviewed scatter plots, and mean/median/mode for her exam. Their teacher has sent me a timeline of material for the semester, so from the next session, we'll focus on moving forward and getting ahead on concepts.

The student has a big history project coming up on slavery, so we discussed what topic he might cover for the project. Then, we did math word problems. He has a tendency to rush through the math portion, so I'm giving him problems with multiple questions and that require unit conversion so that he slows down and reads the question carefully.

Tutoring review by Ahmad in Grayslake, IL
Today we covered factoring and completing the square. We divided the coefficient next to the first degree x by 2 and squared it. Then we factored the expression. We used this to solve for quadratic equations. When solving these equations, we did the same thing to both sides. First we moved the constant to other side. Then we completed the square using both first and second degree variables. We took the square root of both sides and separated the equation into two equations . Then we solved for x. The student was eager to learn the material. She understood it fairly well.

Tutoring review by Rashmi in Grayslake, IL
In today's session, we reviewed her homework (area and perimeter of a figure). She showed proficiency in the concept but did not show her work. I asked to show all her work in future math problems. In addition I helped her doing work on showing fractions using a number line. Also I reviewed with her a new concept of mean/ median/ mode/ range, and she practiced a few problems with me. For homework I asked her to work on a few problems on comparison of fractions and changing fractions into decimals.
