Tutoring review by Anna in Wilton Manors, FL
Today's primary focus was surface area of pyramids. The student had already completed the work and had it checked, but her mother wanted the student to explain it to me as well. She is doing very well on the material from geometry and had no problem explaining it. We only found a single error, and that was just using a squared instead of cubed on a unit. We spent most of the session on her large packet of science homework. She worked through the assignments and I encouraged her to counter-reference her text before finalizing answers. There was an assignment that directly referenced specific paragraphs from her text; I helped her find the trends and she completed the assignment quickly. We finished up with her math video for the day, which she seemed to understand quite well. She is doing great so far this semester and should be well on her way to improving her grades.

Tutoring review by Pooja in Wilton Manors, FL
Today the student and I went over the chord chord theorem, the secant tangent theorem, and the secant secant theorem. These theorems are used to find the values of parts of chords, secants, or tangents in a circle. He initially had difficulty with finding the answer because he was unsure of the formulas that were required. After we went over the formulas, he was easily able to answer the questions and find the required values. He then did a worksheet on his own which I checked after. The questions he had difficulty with were those in which the secant secant theorem had to be utilized. After we went over how to answer the first problem, he re-did the questions and answered them all correctly. He then worked out three more problems in which the secant secant theorem had to be utilized and answered all three correctly. He and I then worked on his Geometry homework. We worked through the problems very quickly and he had little trouble. Overall, I think that the student is now very comfortable with using these theorems to answer questions concerning chords, secants, and tangents.

The student and I reviewed place value through the billions. Using a place value chart I reviewed with the student that numbers are written in word form, expanded form, and standard form. We then reviewed how many places follow hundreds, thousands, millions, and billions. He then had to complete problems in which he had to write the word name for each number and tell the value of the underlined digit. He also had to write the standard form of numbers written in the expanded form. The student had a positive attitude and was focused on the material being reviewed.

We went through chapter 12. I helped him with his quiz corrections, and then we reviewed the later half of the chapter which he had found somewhat challenging. He feels much better about it now after we did numerous examples of the content. Specifically, we did a lot of work with the equation of a circle, as well as worked with radians and tangent lines. He did okay on his last test and very well on his last quiz. This seems to be a good unit for him.

Today's session was great! We went over sentences and sentence structure again, since it's been two weeks since we last reviewed the topic. I brought out the "Sentence Factory" again, which consists of respectively colored cards that correlate to a part of the sentence. Today we went through subjects and predicates briefly and summed it up with a song from Schoolhouse Rock. I explained that the subject has to be a noun, and defined and demonstrated what a noun is. We then practiced her handwriting skills. I used the worksheets. One was a maze to practice her grip and steadiness. The other worksheet focused on word shape and asked her to match the words correctly in the boxes. She liked both activities. But her favorite is Homophone Goldfish. It was great to hear her explain the game to her little sister with the same techniques that I taught her to remember the words. Overall a great session!
