Tutoring review by Angie in Warrenville, IL
We worked on the conservation of energy and the relationship between work and force. The student is having problems keeping the relationships straight. She tends to confuse one relationship with the other. I suggest using flashcards to try to remember the relationships. She has her homework to complete and it has all the answers, so she can check them for accuracy.

The student worked on his paper that is due. He worked on finding source material in ebscohost, proper citation, and putting it in his own words. He wanted to copy and paste from the source, but I warned against that.

The student completed her homework. We talked about piecewise functions and how to write them for different situations. We talked about polygons in geometry using exterior angle and interior angle measures. We covered parabolas and finding the vertex and completing the square. We finished up by talking about some probability.

Tutoring review by Kyle in Warrenville, IL
I took the student's last quiz with me after our Monday meeting so that I could create a hybrid of the most pressing difficulties he had shown on the recent testing. The result was 21 questions. My hope was that asking them again almost immediately after we'd discussed them would lead to better results, and there were quite a few that he handled confidently and immediately. Questions that involve the percentage of a group that has a specific quality along with the count of that group that has a different quality, where the answer is ultimately the count for the first quality or for the total group, continue to be a struggle. Graphing was also a surprising new problem area, so we'll be focusing on that come next Monday.

This session was for Algebra. The students both had a review packet, which we went through. On the whole, they were both quite ready and being able to use their calculator will help them a lot on the test. I also taught them both a bit about imaginary numbers as well as reviewed completing the square.

We reviewed some of the most commonly used phrases in the student's workspace and I went over phrases that she can use with parents and family members in hospital. We went over basic phrases and reviewed some conversational Spanish. She progressed well and asked some great questions.
