Recent Tavares Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Rajan in Tavares, FL
We had an excellent session today. We covered chapter 18 in depth, and focused particularly on the concepts around gene expression. We had a heavy focus on negative feedback, positive feedback, operon complexes, DNA transcription, and catabolic and anabolic reactions. We also covered Hardy Weinberg equilibrium problems, and derived the relationship between p+q = 1 and p^2 +2pq+q^2 =1 in relation to genotypic frequency. Furthermore, we covered how to use the quadratic equation to solve a Hardy Weinberg genetic problem. The student had an excellent attitude towards the material. She has a very strong conceptual approach to problems , allowing her to ask great questions about the material. She seemed to have some difficulty with Hardy Weinberg frequency problems and DNA transcription, but we made a lot of progress on this during today's session. I asked her to complete the Hardy Weinberg genetic problem set for our next session.

We covered Ch. 1 of book (points, lines, planes, segments, angles, congruence, angle pair relationships, polygons, midpoint/ distance formula) and started Ch. 2 of book (inductive reasoning, conditional statements, deductive reasoning, postulates and diagrams). The student is a very fast learner and has a positive attitude! I assigned a few practice problems related to logic/ inductive + deductive reasoning/ conditional statements & some review for Ch.1 concepts. I suggested making flashcards for all the definitions/ terms/ postulates.

Today we started by having the student complete the homework I assigned to him yesterday. We then went over that homework (which he did very well on), and we went over the next 2 activities in the book, which were related to giving further examples of real-world applications of linear equations.

Tutoring review by Joseph in Tavares, FL
We covered graphing linear equations, and finding the inverse of equations. The student is getting better at it the more we practice. She always has a great attitude toward learning the materials we cover. I showed her some different ways to check her solutions to make sure she did them right, and I left her some practice problems to work on before her test on Friday. I think she is progressing very well through her math, and I hope she does well on her test Friday!

Tutoring review by Aidan in Tavares, FL
Tonight we started on the application of derivatives. It was an introduction to the topic, so the material was relatively simple. He was understanding the topic well, so he just went through his homework problems and we did some more practice problems. His understanding of this topic is very good.
