We reviewed concepts for the student's upcoming test, including removing radicals, manipulating algebraic formulas from different disciplines (chemistry, physics, etc.) and graphing algebraic equations. The student seemed much more confident with the material than when we started, and I believe that confidence will reflect on her test.

We did several volumes of revolution problems. We used the shell method and the cylindrical method. I think he understands what to do and he's getting better at the integrations. I've been trying to push him towards simplifying the problems before doing the algebra to reduce errors.

The student and I reviewed for an upcoming test on limits. More specifically, the test will focus on taking the limit as x approaches a constant over an operation involving more than one function of x. We looked at problems from both Algebraic and graphical standpoints. I reviewed with him some more conceptual representations of what it means to take the limit. The student showed a strong understanding of the material and should do well on his test.

Tutoring review by Alexander in Suffern, NY
Today we went over an exam that the student had taken recently. This exam focused on quadratic equations. We worked through every problem that he missed, discussing strategies as well as shortcuts for each solution. This was mostly review work. We went over the basics of parabolas, material which he has not yet mastered, but understands pretty well. I think he has the potential to know everything he needs to. We also went over some exponential and radical functions. We talked about how radicals and exponents are really the same concept, with different notation. I think we made some good progress here.
