No matter what you are learning, working in 1-on-1 sessions with a qualified instructor can help.

Trying to grasp important topics on your own can be a struggle. You may find yourself losing focus or feeling unmotivated to complete homework. Tutors are here to help keep you motivated and make sure you gain a deeper understanding of a subject and its concepts by leading discussions and giving an individualized lesson during each session. Working alongside an expert who is focused on your growth can allow you to pinpoint knowledge gaps and then fill them in, so you can walk away from each session with a stronger foundation of knowledge in any given subject, whether it is science, engineering, writing, or math.

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in South Miami?

The rate that you will pay for each tutoring session can vary based on several factors. One of these factors is amount of help you need from a tutor for students in South Miami.

Let's say you are looking for a reading and writing instructor to work with a student over the course of an entire term. In this case, you may pay a lower rate than you would for a tutor who is just helping a student prepare for the ACT over the course of a few sessions. The background of your instructor can also have an impact on the rate you will pay. You may pay a different amount to work with a tutor who has advanced knowledge of a certain skill compared to support for elementary school topics.

We went over Treasure Island and a paper the student wrote for school. We looked at each paragraph concentrating on verb tense, word choice, and development of ideas with her thesis. For next week, we will continue by looking at her second paper she wrote on Treasure Island and the reading of Sense and Sensibility.

The student and I went over her new organizing strategy with her binder and notebooks. Then we reviewed irregular verbs in the preterite tense and talked about a new memorizing strategy for remembering the roots of the stem changing verbs. Afterwards, we reviewed reflexive verbs and I had her do several different exercises to see her level of memorization of the verb meanings and practice conjugating reflexive verbs in the present with their proper pronouns. Soon we will move on to conjugating reflexive verbs in the preterite tense. After review, I helped her with Destinos, a Spanish soap opera designed to aid auditory comprehension. We then attempted to summarize the video in Spanish rather than English. Overall her grammatical grasp is improving greatly.

After the previous week-long absence, I took some time with the student to review vocabulary. All the vocabulary has been presented through picture flashcards. So, after the review, we played a game where one of us put some pictures on the table. The other person had their back turned and had to try to guess one of the pictures there. For this activity, I taught him the phrases: "What is there?" and "There is/are-there isn't/aren't". He loved the game, and it turned out to be a great review of old terms plus a good use of new ones. I closed our session with the introduction of six prepositions. It was a great lesson. I was also very happy when his mother reported that he is showing noticeable improvement in his French immersion classroom participation. With an increased vocabulary, he is able to respond more frequently, sometimes knowing words his classmates don't know.

We went over content for the student's upcoming chapter 5 quiz next Friday. It was all about finding tangent lines from a given point. We would take the derivative and find the tangent line either using point slope form or y intercept form. Then once we went over that, the student and I went over how to use that tangent line to make approximations for values very close to our given point. For example, if we knew what f(2) was, we would be asked to find f(2.01) using the tangent line.
