We completed homework and a review sheet for an upcoming math quiz. The student is having a little difficulty with negative numbers, but using the number line is helping. He will continue to work on these types of problems and we will review them further before his quiz on Thursday.

The student and I went over her last test. We then went over the last three sections in the book that she covered. The student worked problems on the properties of parallelograms. Then she worked problems on how to test if a quadrilateral is a parallelogram. The student worked problems where she had to find the interior and exterior angles of a polygon. In all cases she did well. She figured out her mistakes from her last test. She will have a comprehensive 6 weeks test later this week.

During this session, we went over the student's most recent homework set, which focused on finding the area of triangles. We talked about the traditional method, which uses the base and the height of the triangle, as well as the trigonometric equation, which can be used to find the area when two sides and the included angle are known. We then went over a practice worksheet for his upcoming test. This worksheet focused on several of the techniques we have been learning over the past couple of weeks, as well as the law of sines and the law of cosines.

Tutoring review by Richard in Plant City, FL
We reviewed a new math curriculum that the student's mother is utilizing as part of the student's home study program. She explained her plan of focusing on foundational addition operations and then moving to subtraction operations. In fact, that is exactly what the student's and I did today. We are approximately 80% complete in this section. She added large whole numbers, dollar amounts, and large numbers containing decimals with little prompting. She did need some guidance regarding place values and seemed to understand that quickly. She commented that this work was easy and a review since she and her mother had worked on it previously during my absence. For our next session, we will continue using addition operations with the formulas for specific figures to determine perimeter and area. She commented that this is especially challenging for her and that she needs the extra help. Her motivation remains high and I assured her that she'd get the help/ support she needs. In consultation with the student's mother at the end of today's session, we evaluated the student's progress. We have both observed an increased level of confidence that is reflected in her behavior; specifically, her eagerness to show she can do math problems on her own. She no longer guesses at problems and is not rushing through each problem. Additionally, I have noticed a significant decrease in negative self and other talk about her math abilities. Her statements like, 'I'm not smart...' have stopped.

Tutoring review by Elnora in Plant City, FL
The student and I have almost caught up to where he is currently in the class! He just completed Chapter 11 in class, and we have covered most of the content related to public and common goods. We will continue to finish this topic this week. We also completed a review of Chapter 10 in which he obtained a better understanding of the difference between positive and negative externalities, the social "values" and "costs," policies related to the taxation or direct regulation of negative externalities, and subsidies to encourage positive externalities. He also excelled with Coase's theorem, pertaining to the use of private contracts and mechanisms to encourage mutual benefits.
