Mount Dora Tutoring FAQ

Mount Dora is a small Florida town with approximately 13,000 residents. This Lake County community is home to one of three freshwater lighthouses in the state. Because of the smorgasbord of festivals it holds, Mount Dora is dubbed "The Festival City."

The town's only High School is Mount Dora High School, which is based in the Lake School District. Online and in-person Mount Dora tutoring might help you stay on top of your test prep. Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, is the number one university in the South according to U.S. News and World Report. With private test prep instruction via in-home or online tutoring in Mount Dora, FL, you can potentially improve the chances of getting into these top schools. A Mount Dora, FL, tutor will encourage you to meet and then exceed your goals.

Mount Dora, aka "The Festival City," isn't called that for nothing. The residents hold an event practically every month of the year. Mount Dora's largest event is the Mount Dora Craft Fair held in October. The fair attracts over 250,000 visitors annually. Over 400 artists and crafters from all over the country display and sell their art, which ranges from paintings to woodworking. In addition to unique artwork, you can also enjoy food and live entertainment there. Every April, you can surround yourself with blueberries at the Mount Dora Blueberry Festival. The festival includes a blueberry pancake breakfast, a water balloon toss, live music, a pie-eating contest, and more. If you want a break from all the festivals in town, go to Grantham Point, sometimes called "Lighthouse Park." The reason for the name is that it features a 35-foot lighthouse, the only inland freshwater lighthouse in the state. Sit on one of the park's benches and pass the time with fishing or deep contemplation. Visit Modernism Museum Mount Dora for a unique exhibit experience. It is a museum where art meets craftsmanship. Some of the collections there may make you wonder if you're in a furniture store or an art gallery. Nevertheless, the artwork encourages you to see things like a bed or table from a new perspective.

If you love softball and/or kickball, then you should sign up for the leagues through the Mount Dora Parks and Recreation Department. Both sports teams play their games at the Frank Brown Sports Complex.

Tutoring review by Rachel in Mount Dora, FL
Today, the student and I worked on MLA citation. She also has five tests on Friday so we worked on subjects she wasn't 100% on. We worked on understanding the periodic table. We also analyzed the new book she is reading for her language arts class and comparison to the book Night. She has a pretty good handle on the material.

Tutoring review by Erika in Mount Dora, FL
The student had a homework assignment that needed to be completed for tomorrow. The assignment involved analyzing graph data. There were several different kinds of graphs including bar, column, line and pie graphs. She did very well in the homework and was able to easily understand the given data in the most of the graphs. The pie graphs were more difficult because they showed data in percentages rather than specific amounts. Once I explained how to calculate the values using the percentages and totals, she was able to work through the questions. After completing her homework, I asked the student to solve some simple equations using the process that we had gone through in previous questions. This is still an area that needs improvement, but we will continue to work on examples as time provides. I also gave her a packet of index cards with the multiplication tables for 1's through 12's to help build her confidence in multiplication and division.

In this session, the student and I met to go over some problems she had and a review packet on series and sequences. Rather than trying to memorize formulas and get right answers, I spent time making sure she understood the concepts underlying these problems; that way she wouldn't even have to memorize formulas. I can tell that her understanding has deepened since the first time we met.

We prepared for the student's upcoming test. We reviewed each concept step by step and then went over problems from two of her packets. She knows how to do the problems, she just needs moral support. She was doing all of the work right but would stop and ask if she's on the correct track, which she always was. She is improving her confidence with the problems by gaining moral support from our sessions.

Tutoring review by Lisa in Mount Dora, FL
The student received a 94% on her 6.1-6.4 quiz! The only question she missed was regarding domain and range. It was a simple mistake that I do not think she would make in the future. We worked on 6.7 Writing Linear Functions. She understands this section, but had a little difficulty writing a function rule based on a table, so we went over this in depth. We also went over 6.6 Transforming Linear Functions. She has a good understanding of this section. She received a B on a class work assignment (guided practice 6.4), so we reviewed this. At the end of the session, we worked on some practice problems from my SAT Math workbook on solving equations with one variable. She does better and better with these the more she practices.
