I worked with the student on using scientific notation. We worked a number of problems involving converted numbers from standard notation to scientific notation and back. The problems also involved adding and subtracting numbers in scientific notation. She did very well as usual. I believe she is a gifted student.

Tonight I gave the student a lecture on different angle types. We drew the angles together and walked through the definitions of parallel lines, transversal lines, congruent angles, supplementary angles, corresponding angles, and adjacent angles. I told her to make flashcards for homework where she should put the angle type on the front of the card and the definition and a picture of the angles on the back to help her remember the different types of angles.

In my third session with the student, we continued practicing with two dictations, focusing on past tense and AP theme vocabulary. She is able to transcribe in French with minor errors but has not been receiving high grades for these in class, so she wants to get more comfortable with dictations. I gave her some tips on listening for prepositions to cue infinitive verbs and proofreading for agreement single/plural of adjectives. She prepared a short speaking piece to allow her to practice speaking in passe compose and the imparfait. We ended with a 20-minute immersion impromptu French discussion to practice informal conversation.
