Today we started to work through the review material. We reviewed concepts that they learned at the beginning of the year, and worked to memorize formulas and properties that are repeatedly on the test. Once we discussed the setup of the problem, the students were able to solve most of the problems. We will continue the review at our next session.

Tutoring review by Meghan in Gaston County, NC
The student and I started by going through critical reading passages. We went through questions involving the purpose of quotes and/or phrases. In general, he is doing better on the extended reasoning questions. We went through a few quick math problems; I had him do counting, primes, odd/even, and selecting values for variable questions.

Tutoring review by Yiyu in Gaston County, NC
We have covered word problems, inequalities and visualizing inequalities on number lines. The student was struggling with the word problems and had questions about number lines, but I believe she now feels more comfortable about these. Skills of simplifying the word problems (take notes and organize the information) have been included. We have agreed on that she can always send me her homework/ quiz/ test throughout the week for me to evaluate, and hence we can faster focus on the areas that need most attention in the next session. The session was productive overall and the student was focused and hardworking. I believe we will soon see bigger progress.

We covered chapter 3 (Migration). The student did well on the questions at the end of the session and once they were explained, she seemed comfortable with the material. One skill we worked on was reading graphs. She struggled with this at first, but this is something that I am going to introduce more and more as we move on.

Tutoring review by Travis in Gaston County, NC
The student read an editorial over current events and wrote a summary of the editorial. The editorial was surprisingly difficult and complex, and took some background research for him to accomplish. He did pretty well with what he has written so far. He is improving in his ability to logically structure summaries. He even asked if he could outline the paper.
