Tutoring review by Brandee in Forest Hills, NY
During our session on Sunday, I discussed a new study strategy with the student which includes studying basic math and moving up to more advanced math instead of simply "studying for the test." This will help her get a more solid hold on basic concepts before being forced to attempt questions that she is not yet equipped to answer. Additionally, I think it will provide her with a more long-term benefit, as she will remember these concepts as opposed to studying them only for the test and then discarding them. My plan is to work on pre-algebra this week (she is already progressing very well), algebra the next, geometry afterwards, and then tackling the ACT math questions, as they combine multiple concepts in each problem. I feel that she will learn much better this way. For "homework" before our next session, I asked that she make flashcards for all of the formulas that she will need to have memorized for the test.

The student and I met today to work on science. He is learning the basics about conducting experiments, collecting data, and reporting results. We spent most of the session working on translating his findings into graphs. He recently received notice that he was on the honor roll for this past quarter, which was welcome news to him, his parents, and to me.

We covered LR and LG. The student is taking the LSAT tomorrow, and I think she's going to do very well! She should remember our LG timing techniques, but other than that, she has great accuracy and timing. Good luck!
