Tutoring review by Ivan in Clayton, NC
Tonight the student and I went through the rest of his volume of a solid revolution homework, as well as discussing some further problems that weren't due yet. We discussed some problems from our last session, which he had asked his teacher about. We briefly went over the first couple of problems again, and he had a better understanding of how to approach them. He had caught on quickly to the patterns associated with moving the axis of rotation to different spots on the graph and the relations with how to find the radii, so he seemed a lot more comfortable with those. He also looked at his Calculus grade and noticed that his grade had gone up, so congratulations to him! He's keeping up the good work, and is doing a great job studying and understanding the material.

Tutoring review by Justin in Clayton, NC
The student and I prepared her for her test that she was having next Monday on simplifying expressions and simplifying log functions. We went over her review sheet and it appeared she has grasped the concepts and material but still needs to build some confidence in solving simplifying log functions, which she hesitantly solves but gets the right answer. One thing that she did struggle with a little was simplifying fractions within fractions; we thoroughly went through a good example on her practice sheet and she said she'll practice more problems like this along with doing the worksheet one more time.

Student C and I began reading a new Gary Paulsen novel. We worked through background information on the American Revolution, discussed the genre historical fiction, and clarified vocabulary words. This novel is much more age appropriate and he was very engaged. Student N was very eager to read books. He read two and his comprehension and fluency was excellent with both. We practiced spelling and will focus on handwriting in upcoming sessions.

Through all the practice math sections that we work on, it is evident that the student has improved a lot since we started. She is much better at problems that ask her to generate an equation and solve/manipulate them to get to an answer.

The student and I worked on operations using exponents. He seemed to pick up on this pretty quickly, and he was able to work on example problems on his own.

Tutoring review by Danni in Clayton, NC
The student was learning polynomial factoring, solving, and graphing this week. We went over quadratic and cubic polynomials specifically. We also practiced solutions with real and imaginary solutions. She seems to learn the new concepts very quickly. We also reviewed function transformations; I made a reference sheet for her in her notebook of all the different transformations.
