Tutoring review by Liban in Cave Creek, AZ
Today we continued working on chi-squared testing. The student has grown more comfortable with the material and the math involved with calculating chi squared/ determining whether to retain or reject the null. The student was still a little troubled over the difference between goodness of fit, homogeneity and independence. I described and showed examples of all three tests. I made sure she understood what was being asked for all three tests and how to interpret the results for all three tests. We then reviewed linear regression and introduced her to regression of means. After a brief explanation, she understood the concept and was able to apply it to her classwork.

During the session, we discussed the statistics the student is writing about, and I helped her decide how best to present the major stats she will use in her qualification exam and likely for her dissertation.

Since he passed the assessment Algebra 1 test last week, the student was pretty excited to finish taking the quizzes and graduate from high school. Today we went over three lessons he will be taking quizzes on this week. These are on angles in polygons, equation of circles, and triangle properties. He was pretty confident on triangle properties, so we started on equation of circles. There was a review packet with around 14 problems in it. We solved each by using center, endpoints and radius of circle. He felt pretty confident on these problems. After that we continued with angles of polygons. At the beginning we went over the polygon names and continued with the interior and exterior angles. At the end of session he was pretty clear and knew what to do on each problem.

Today we began looking at Chapter 10 because the student has a test on it next week. We started to do the Chapter 10 review, but then narrowed it down to the 10.1-3 review, and started honing in on some of the fundamentals. I think tomorrow we should try a different approach and work from the ground up instead of the other way around, so that she can feel confident in what she knows and just add to it.

Tutoring review by Matjaz in Cave Creek, AZ
Today we first checked on the homework. The most difficult part was to calculate two variables, a and b from the system of two equations. We then proceeded to finalize the first chapter including topics on logic and the deductive structure of geometry. These included defining definition, theorem, postulate, and unknown variables. We used terms of union, intersection to find different geometrical figures. We finished the chapter with the overview of probability as it applies to geometry. We covered the calculation of probability in a discrete case, where you count all outcomes and all success outcomes, and also covered the case when you can't count. In that case you compare measures, in our simple case, lengths of the segments to get probabilities of successful outcomes in random events. The students were given homework from the last sections of the chapter, and were allowed to choose 15 different problems from the chapter overview for homework.
