Today, we covered basic right triangle trigonometry using the unit circle and special right triangles, learned about the effective angle, how to convert between radians and degrees, and the special triangle side lengths. We also discussed how to graph the sine, cosine, and tangent waves, identified the periods of each, and discussed how to transform the graphs.

Tutoring review by Mahir in Burnt Hills, NY
The student and I reviewed both Algebra 2 and Physics concepts. She plans on taking a makeup Physics final this week, and a makeup math quiz next week. We started with math and quickly brushed up on the chapter so far. She also has a worksheet due for homework, so she worked through a few of those problems. They dealt with graphing radical functions (only square and cubic roots) based on transformations of the original parent function. She was also required to find the domain and range of each of these functions. The last part of the worksheet was word problems which represented a radical function that she had to write out based on the information given. We reviewed the gravitational force equation and explained what each of the variables mean and their significance in the real world. We worked through problems utilizing this equation, and she had no issues at all working through them. There were a few tricky ones in which you had to remember that the distance between objects should actually be the distance between the center of masses of the two objects. We delved a little further into concepts with another worksheet she has. This second worksheet further clarified differences between weight (gravitational force) and mass.

The student was able to make it through the test for Unit One and started on Unit Two. Having been through the beginning of this course before, she was familiar with the material. The only issues she had were minor misconceptions that were easily explained. We also mapped out her goals for the rest of the year so that she can complete the course. At most, on every assignment she completed, she only missed one question.

The student's math assessment is tomorrow. She passed the reading today. We practiced conversions of feet and inches to inches and vice versa. She did fine with counting and subtracting money and converting hours to minutes. She really takes the work very seriously and wants to do well.

Tutoring review by Bailey in Burnt Hills, NY
The student and I worked through her chapter review problems to prepare for her upcoming exam. She showed a marked improvement on determining z-scores, percentiles, and how each relate to a standard normal curve. She ran into some issues when making large calculations and when using her calculator in general. There were two problems today that she did perfectly all on her own (Yay!). However, when she was later presented with a similar problem in a story format, she struggled to determine what the question was asking of her. We have been focusing quite a bit on helping her to write out information in a simple list or figure so she has a visual to help her work through each problem. At this point, it seems like the visualization is helping with her memory and problem solving process.

We reviewed his algebra homework. He understands the concepts but has trouble applying them. He just needs to trust what he knows and take each problem step by step, and I believe he will succeed. I left him with three homework problems to do.
