Tutoring review by Kent in Briarcliff Manor, NY
We covered chapter 3 in her textbook, because she has a test coming up on Tuesday. This focused on, specifically: L'Hopital's Rule, linear estimations, some review of trigonometry, and logarithmic derivation. She seemed to pick up the material really quickly - she just needed a little direction. I showed her how to use the unit circle to determine sine/cosine/tangent of angles, which she seemed to really click with her.

We continued with radicals. We continued practicing simplifying radicals by introducing variables. I gave him a step by step process on how to simplify complex terms and gave him several examples to practice with until he felt comfortable with the material. We then reviewed other classes to see if there was any material that needed reviewing. We finished the session reviewing the periodic table for his science class. I assigned some practice work with radicals to help prepare him for next week.

We went through linear equations. We used graphs and tables to find the slope and equation of the line. I explained to the student how she has to use them and find the slope and then plug in numbers to find the equation of the line. We also covered some word problems. I explained to her how she has to use different information to set up the problem and solve it. We covered slope interpretation as well. She understood it, and she is doing great.
