Tutoring review by John in Akron, OH
Reviewed his past and current homework, which he had some questions about. I went over with him how to calculate the equation of the tangent line for a function at a given point. I also reviewed with him how to work with vector fields and how to solve first order differential equations. We also talked about how he can improve his performance in tests (by working to retain everything he's learned and memorizing the differentiation/integral rules).

Tutoring review by Bejoy in Akron, OH
Today the student and I went over word problems covering different topics in algebra, arithmetic and geometry. We reviewed about 35 different problems. She did very well in these problems and I thought she understood what the question was asking and tried to apply what she knew to find the answer. She did have trouble with one of the algebra word problems where it asked for what time 2 trains would meet if they are traveling in opposite directions and left their stations at the same time. She correctly drew out the problem and used the correct formula d=rt but then she got stuck with what to do from there. We went over that and I gave her another similar example which she did great. I told her to bring her textbook for our next session so that I can get an idea on what kind of word problems she is learning in class. Overall I thought the student was excellent today and did plenty of word problems covering a range of topics like volume, perimeter, percents, ratios, age word problems, work word problems and distance.

Tutoring review by Kewanta in Akron, OH
Today I met with the student for the first time. Our time together was very pleasant. We are definitely going to have a lot of fun learning. Today we covered the four different Reporting Categories of 6th Grade Math - Number Sense, Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, and Financial Literacy. I strongly believe that math students should understand where the problem is coming from. It will help them tackle the problem with a clear view. I gave him an assessment. I wanted to assess his current strengths and deficiencies in order to be a highly effective tutor. After the assessment, we took a look at the current Math concepts. This week they are working on graphs. Therefore, he and I did a brief overview of histograms. After reviewing his assignments, it is clear that he needs strategies to help him develop full picture views of the problem. Like most students, he rushes through the problem, and does not always catch the important details. He has a very positive attitude. He knows that he is very smart. However, he also understands that the amount of effort is directly related to his success as a student. Now, that I know what he needs to be successful, I will introduce those strategies during our next session.

Tutoring review by Tate in Akron, OH
The student was learning about DNA expression, so we spent the majority of our time covering concepts related to that topic. We watched several informative videos about DNA transcription, mRNA processing/splicing, and translation. The videos helped her conceptualize what she was learning since she is a visual learner. We discussed all the different proteins involved in the processes, the difference between 5' and 3' ends, what it means for DNA to be anti-parallel, and where the different processes take place. She is doing very well and I am pleased with her progress, as usual!

Tutoring review by Nicole in Akron, OH
For this session, the student read his book and wrote his summary paragraph. He finished his book and seems very excited to read the next book in the series. He also completed a few word problems with the operations of addition and subtraction for numbers up to 1000. He did a great job summarizing his reading. He struggled with recalling a few details, but he does a great job generating his sentences and writes good compound sentences. Great job!

Tutoring review by Dhinakaran in Akron, OH
We continued our session from Wednesday, with one student continuing to do the chapter tests. She is now up to chapter 7 of 9 in studying for her exam next week. With the next student, who had her exam in Pre-Calc and Algebra earlier that day, we continued on learning new concepts and picked up where we left off in logarithms. She did several examples from an algebra book using the law of logarithms and her work was checked for comprehension and mistakes. The third student has an exam in two weeks, so she continued to review her past material as well as worked on transformations to the graphs of y=Asin(Bx+C) + D and y=Acos(Bx+C) + D.
