We specifically worked on expanding log problems and problems modeled using exponential formulas. She has a very positive attitude towards the material that was covered.

We reviewed a few things that we covered before the student's break. After discussing arithmetic of rational expressions, I thought I would teach him about percentages and decimals. He knew how to convert from one to another, which was great! We then went on to talk about discounts, sales tax, and tips. I taught him some tricks and we went over some practice problems!

Tutoring review by Christopher in Stanton, CA
Today, we did a review and brainstorming session for the student's first exam. Specifically, we began by going over a falling body practice problem that he did and the minor error that crept in. Then we covered the different methods of solving differential equations. Next, we looked at each of the possible word problems that could be asked, and set up an algorithm to tackle each one. Then, we discussed different outlooks on life before refocusing on the exam. Finally, we looked at an analysis of what could be on the exam, and I recommended that he work problems with easier equations as they are quicker to solve and more likely to be on the exam. I also recommended that if he should get stuck on a problem, to write a quick note of what he would do next if he could get unstuck.

We worked on linear algebra and introduction to slopes, y-intercepts and equations of lines. We worked on the Cartesian plane and its relationship between the variables in interests mentioned above. The student has solidified her fundamentals from last year.

Tutoring review by Lora in Stanton, CA
The student and I went over lessons on iReady for both reading and math. He first went through a reading lesson, which was fairly easy and involved answering questions on a story about happiness and measuring happiness around the world. He then completed a math lesson, focusing on division with remainders. He was slightly confused at some points, but when we went over the questions together, he understood it. He then ended with another reading lesson about the structure of a story (plot, climax, etc.) and applying that to a story that was read aloud to him. In preparation for taking his math test, we talked about him taking the math test slow and taking deep breaths if he notices he is starting to get nervous.

Tutoring review by Aaron in Stanton, CA
We started off with some practice for the student's school homework. He did a good job of showing his work and solving the algebraic expressions correctly. He seems to be doing well in his math class, so we moved on to test practice. He did really well on the upper-level ISEE math section (32 out of 37); we went over some basic percentage and geometric principles, but otherwise he did a pretty good job of not falling for certain tricky questions. He scored 32 out of 40 on the verbal section, missing only synonyms (which means he got 100% on the sentence completions). We went over the vocab words he missed at the end of class. Overall, it was focused and confident work.
