Frederick Hello! My name is Frederick, I'm an engineering student at UNF. I'm a math and science tutor and would love to help a student who is ready to learn.... My teaching philosophy is if you can raise a student’s confidence with a lesson, it’s more helpful than anything else is. I've struggled over the years with certain subjects and can completely understand what it’s like to be a frustrated student. I want to try and show students that they can do it, and with that confidence boost to go back at the lesson with a better attitude, thus a better gain of knowledge.

Ginger ...years with students in small groups and individually. My primary subject of tutoring is in math, which I love. To me, there is no better feeling than seeing the light come on when a concept that was "too hard" becomes understandable to a student. I also love that students from past years will approach me in public and share their successes and thank me for the help I was able to give them.... I believe that everyone can have a deeper understanding of mathematical principles. I also believe that there is more than one way to solve any given problem. I do not believe that rote memorization of facts or processes is true learning. To that end, I talk with each student and ask questions to find out how each person thinks and how they best learn. I am then able to show them different techniques using their strengths to guide the lesson. I continue to check for understanding throughout the lesson to ensure that the process is working, and if not, I change direction. In this way, my instruction is personalized for each student.

Nicholas ...to necessary surgery. I work in the Department of Integrative biology, specializing in genetics. Since graduating from UF, I planned to either go to medical school, or to seek a position as a professor teaching at a reputable college. I chose the latter; though the pay is less, I find too much joy in both research and teaching to not pursue those as a career at the highest level. Throughout my life, I have found...

Brookelynn ...myself chanting the gospel songs I learned in Jamaica, and I am once again reminded that these two humbling experiences, and my wealth of knowledge I have gained from working in the emergency department, have fortified my career choice and given me confidence as a future practitioner; I am thrilled to integrate my passions for both the material facts of anatomy and physiology with mortal facts of psychology and spirituality for a career in medicine.

Michael ...a relaxed, stress free environment. My goal is to help students learn in the way they find most effective. If one way of explaining a topic does not work, I will try explaining it in another, more fitting, way. My hope is that through asking students questions about their work, they can better understand what is in front of them. I want to be a part of a student's learning process, and I believe I...
