Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I pieced together more of how ser and estar works today. She seemed to really become comfortable in using the different conjugations with their appropriate subjects (nosotros, yo, etc.) and adjectives as well. She always took account of gender and number!"
"We reviewed feminine and masculine concepts and I graded the student's homework assignment I left for him. He seemed to not understand the plural and singular concepts when dealing with gender for my evaluation. However, the actual session consisted of my taking the teaching further by writing down rules to help him memorize and sort out the basic principles by following a structural pattern. We did a couple of exercises together and within minutes he was able to understand it a lot better. The last portion of the session was focusing on him learning vocabulary and spelling. I left him with some vocabulary work where he needs to see the word and write it out. I told him to repeat this 5 times and the 6th time he needs to do it without looking."
"Today, we started reviewing for the student's upcoming midterm. We worked on the following topics: expressions with: "tener," "tener + due + infinitive," and "hacer." We also covered the imperfect tense, focusing primarily on the use and conjugations of the verbs: "ser" and "ir." We also went over every greeting expression and different ways of expressing them in Spanish. Lastly, we went over the time. The session was very productive, and I took a lot of notes to help the student study for his test. He was focused and needs to review a few of the vocabulary words."
"This was a full conversational session. We reviewed and practiced conversation from an audio recording and then we talked about family using all the content that has been covered so far. Great session."
"The student had a presentation the next day in which he was pretending to be the artist Pablo Picasso. I worked with him on both a written part and on the oral presentation, making sure his grammar and syntax were good. As far as preparation for the presentation went, we worked together making sure everything sounded good, and I had him practice for me several times."
"The student and I discussed a short story for his class. He wrote the story on his own, and then we went through it together. He did a good job coming up with a creative story and using a variety of vocabulary words. We used many examples from his story as an opportunity to practice verb conjugation. We agreed to do additional practice of verbs next week."
