"The student's homework was dealing with pre-algebra. She is understanding the basic concepts pretty well. When she got confused, I could draw her a picture or a graph and that would make it easier for her to understand. As this unit progresses, I'm sure she will continue to do well as long as she thinks about what the question is asking her to do."
"The student and I worked on finding missing values in addition problems. We also worked on being able to identify the difference in even and odd numbers. Initially, he needed help a little identifying the difference, but he was beginning to show progress in understanding the concept. We also worked on identifying numbers between two set values. We worked on being able to identify if values are arranged out of order and being able to rearrange them in order. We closed with being able to identify coins and their values and counting money as well as being able to display it on paper."
"Today I worked on spelling and some addition and subtraction with Student 1. He zipped through the math. I worked on reading time and some addition and subtraction with Student 2. She had a little more trouble with 'quarter till,' but seemed to remember how to do it after the first couple times."
"Today we worked on long division. The girls have had very limited exposure to these types of problems. Today was an introductory lesson. I encouraged them to push forward with new stuff. Student A mastered four digit dividends and Student B needs extra practice with three digit dividends. We will continue to work these types of problems using various strategies for the next couple of sessions."
"The session started with a brief get to know you with each of the students. We then went over some learning style questions and the students let me know ways they like to learn, as well as ways they learn in class. Each student discussed the math topics they have covered in their regular classroom. The students each did 4 problems on the online portal so I could gauge their abilities."
"Today we focused on long division and 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. The student has a good grasp of both concepts but needs to practice more. I gave him practice problems to work on for our next meeting."
