Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over her unit review packets over sequences, functions, dot-plots, box and whisker plots, and graphs. I encouraged her to continue to practice for her upcoming final and to continue to gather questions and concepts that she is struggling the most with so that we can continue to work on those in our sessions."
"We went through several problems finding the arc length of a curve as well as reviewed the three different methods for finding the volume of a solid created by revolving an area around some axis of rotation. Once she was comfortable identifying the function that we were calculating the arc length of over a specific range, she did well using the formula to set up the integral. She is also doing very well remember to use the chain rule for taking derivatives and using the fundamental theorem of calculus to take the derivative of an integral. She is doing well remembering the disk method for finding the volume of a solid of revolution and we reviewed how to use the washer and shell methods. We also looked at when to use the different methods depending on the graphs and the axis of rotation."
"I helped the students study for their upcoming final exams. I was particularly proud of Student 1 today because he has improved SO much on solving equations and inequalities. He showed a lot of grit and worked through the problems the long way, without guess/checking. He also showed the self-awareness to specifically ask me to look over solving inequalities with him so that he could get better prepared. Awesome! Student 2 and I covered a wider breadth of topics. We also reviewed additional questions on volumes and surface areas. Great work! I know they will do well on the exam!"
"The student is finished with math for the school year, so we're shifting our focus to maintaining and building up the skills he'll need for 5th grade, namely fractions and decimal operations. He is still working on his multiplication and gets a little sticky with 8's. He's going to try to focus on those a little more this week."
"We reviewed math chapter 7 lessons to help the students prepare for their exam. We worked on ratios, percentages and proportions. We also reviewed their quiz and helped them correct the problems they missed on proportions. They both did a great job."
"In this session, the student and I did a brief review for her test this week. Then we explored and worked on the next section "Exploring Solids.""
