"Covered the best strategy to maximize score and 5 strategies for multiple choice math problems. We practiced them while doing problems. The student must complete at least one practice math section by next Monday."
"Today we covered a wide range of topics, continuing along in the basic algebra section. First we discussed systems of equations and the various methods for solving them - I made special note of the quicker SAT way of doing these types of questions. We then discussed exponents very quickly, which we were able to skip due to the student's familiarity with the subject, and spent the remainder of our times discussing roots. While most subjects were simple for him, he did have a hard time with roots. We spent extra time discussing the concept and I gave him extra problems. Roots are integral to the SAT's algebra and geometry sections, so he must be familiar with the concepts before we move on. Overall, he had a positive attitude with this session and we did very well progressing through the chapter."
"We started the session by discussing the student's past SAT score and his goals for the next time he takes the exam. I told him about a few tricks he could use to save time. We then solved 20 problems from his SAT book and took notes on ways he could solve the problems, such as plugging in the answer choices, eliminating choices that did not make logical sense, etc. I encouraged him to draw out any problems that involved figures and to underline the pertinent information in word problems. We also reviewed some old math concepts that he likely has not seen in a few years. For next week, I assigned two math sections and for him to continue to review the old math concepts after the weekend to monitor his retention."
