"The student and I went over 2 sections today: power functions w/monomial functions, and other polynomial functions. The power functions and monomial functions were fairly easy, and she was able to breeze through her homework. The next section she had not gotten through completely in class, and we discussed it in full. I helped her find "zeros" using the graphing calculator. We went over limits and re-writing equations with negative and fractional exponents. Overall, she is doing well."

"We covered how to solve a system of equations through substitution, elimination, and graphing. By working through problems from the student's exam, we were able to solve problems using all three techniques. We also covered more basic concepts such as sign changes (i.e. when sign changes from negative to positive). She is still struggling a little with sign changes and needs to work on solving a system of equations on her own. We will work more on these skills and in the future, I will give her worksheets to practice these concepts. She did very well this session and took thorough notes, which I was happy that she did. Hopefully we will be able to boost her scores and make sure she's well grounded in these concepts in algebra."
"Today I covered the basics of graphical interpretation with the student. I clarified the definition of slope, and helped him understand what x and y represent. We looked at practical application with speed, and defined speed as distance divided by time, meters divided by seconds, and y divided by x. I also brought him ahead of his course and started teaching him linear algebra. I showed him how to calculate (x,y) coordinates and standard form: y = mx + b. He is now far ahead of his class and we will continue to push further in our future sessions."
"We prepared for her upcoming math test tomorrow. She needed to review graphing quadratic functions, finding the domain and range of them, writing them in standard form, finding the equation of a quadratic when given a point and the vertex, and decomposing square roots of negative numbers into their real and complex components. We did a number of practice problems and discussed some problem-solving strategies."
